WHY?

There is no essential meaning in the universe. Not according to Nihilism. Coming out of philosophies such as Existentialisms and Absurdism, which contain within their outlooks a view there is no God, Nihilism takes what we understand about science, especially evolution and cosmology, to its natural conclusion.

That being, we are not special. We're evolved beings. And evolution is a blind process which operates chiefly on Darwinism, which involves the concept "Survival of the Fittest" and on the off-chance a mutation will occur to a gene with a generation or a few. Though some have tried to tie their religious beliefs with evolution (i.e. God kick-started the process), the problem is with Theistic Evolution, there is an end goal God intended. This is not how the process works. There is no end goal. Humans are not necessarily the pinnacle of evolution. Evolution is about survival. If another organism is better at surviving than we are, then it is, accordingly, superior.
